SAM HART’s bike

Sam wanted something as an everyday machine but also wanted it for a bit of touring and some cyclo cross. Quite a lot to ask but i love building bikes that will really get used, her first ride was a week in France she has also ridden the Rapha super cross on it.

It has internal cable routing throughout with stops for the outer and guides for just the inner wire to go through the frame. The front mech inner wire pops out at the bottom of the down tube and round a brass guide i made and brazed to the bb shell.

I spent quite some time shaping each entrance and exit for the cables

Reynolds 853 unicrown fork blades, i made some cup type dropouts to hold the wheel securely, i have seen Sam riding with front skewer loose before so this will stop the wheel falling out if it happens again.

With the surname Hart, it had to have a heart somewhere on the frame so i cut a heart shaped plate for the seat stays to mount to on the back of the seat tube, this also gave a perfect place for paint masking.

Armourtex did a great job, the frame and forks were fully powder coated in the blue then masked up and the wet paint went on Sammy Hart was stenciled on the toptube in paint. The whole lot had a powder clear coat for extra strength.

Michele’s bike

This has take a long time to build because of all the small details which really give it the clean look i was after.

It has twin tubes from the headtube to dropouts like a lot of ladies frames except this has no additional seatstays which are not needed for the less tall person.

It has an integrated rear rack with curved supports to follow the line of the wheel and mudguard

I hand carved a plate to join the two main tubes to the seattube, the rear brake bolts to the underneath and the mudguard also mounts to it.

The seattube slots through the plate leaving a thin band following around the front of the seattube to match the wrap around on the headtube.

You can see the internal cable routing, and stem with integrated top cap.

It is not so easy to have mudguards with minimal fittings, here i have brazed small tubes into the frame for the mudguard stays to slot into. There are small grub screws to lock them in place.

The bar plugs have been turned on my lathe from aluminium bar.

The colour choice came from wallpaper in my parents kitchen, i really wanted two colours to make the wrap around stand out.

First it had the off-white powdercoat base then the other colour is a wet paint over the top with a powdercoat clearcoat over the lot to add durability. The pedal cages were also stripped of paint and clear coated to keep it all silver.
